Awich, FERG & RZA: It’s bloody good-good in the ‘Butcher Shop’ cinematic flex

Love all things Attack The Culture? Me, too. So how about the randomness of showing big love to Awich, FERG and RZA coming together for their ‘Butcher Shop’ tune? I’m here for it, Attackers.

Awich, FERG and RZA connect on the ‘Butcher Shop’

It’s way more than just a fire single. How about getting the trio linking up for the cinematic music video? Tough.

The queen of Japanese Hip-Hop Awich collaborates with FERG on her newest track, “Butcher Shop”, out now. You can listen to “Butcher Shop” here

“Butcher Shop” is a collaboration of both American and Japanese hip-hop, blended into a song where Awich and FERG’s rap style compliment one another seamlessly. The track is produced by Wu Tang Clan’s RZA, who took Awich under his wing during a trip in Japan after he recognized her genuine love for hip-hop. When reflecting on the track, Awich had these words to say. “‘Butcher Shop’ is a place where three of my realities intersect—Okinawa, where I was born and raised; Tokyo, where I live now; and New York. Together with a legend like RZA and a true embodiment of the streets like FERG, we cut through the noise with sharp words and beats to capture the spirit of this borderless era. This song is a crossroads—Japan and NYC, culture and fashion, luxury and play, sin and consequence. Everyone brings their own ‘meat’ to the table, and we slice into the truth. Welcome to our Butcher Shop.” The single is the first of many to come from Awich as she looks towards global dominance in her music, paving the way for the next generation to come.

Over the course of the last few years, Awich has been cementing her spot in the US music industry. After becoming the first Japanese rapper to perform at Coachella in 2024, and becoming the person that musicians traveling to Japan comes to; the star has built organic relationships that shows how genuine and far she’ll go. The dedication she has to showcasing the worldwide impact of hip-hop in an authentic and respectful way, Awich has truly started the road to becoming a timeless artist.

About Awich:

Growing up on her home island of Okinawa, Awich, short for “Asia Wish Child” is a name she created to reflect her passions. She debuted with the EP "Inner Research" in 2006 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia in the US at the same time. In her time in Atlanta, Awich produced her first full album "Asia Wish Child" and released it in 2007. After moving back to Japan, Awich faced endless internal questioning and this intense process of introspection was cathartic and helped her reevaluate a more profound meaning of life, love, and forgiveness. Shortly after, she released another full album, making it to be her first in a decade. Awich’s ability to submerge herself into multiple global perspectives while also adding her signature feminine touch allows her to create music that is singular but relatable across the world. Awich has proven herself by being the first Japanese rapper to perform at Coachella.
