That Mexican OT: The Boogeyman comes alive on the Texas rap flexer’s ‘Cucuy’ album

You have to really love all things That Mexican OT. His witty wordplay. His witty personality. How about his knack for delivering quality singles, music videos and albums like it’s a regular routine? Super fire. It’s all ears on OT courtesy of his new Cucuy studio album.

That Mexican OT delivers with his ‘CUCUY’ studio album

It’s pure lyricism and just signature energy coming from the Lone Star State rap heavyweight on his newest release. Add in a few guest spots from artists like 1900Rugrat and Kodak Black, too? Wild.

Blending the various sounds of Southeast Texas and adding his sharp flows and cheeky sense of humor, That Mexican OT cannot be stopped. The Bay City native returns to haunt the Rio Grande Valley with CUCUY, his new album. Arriving just in time for Halloween, the CUCUY gets its name from a boogeyman-like character in Tejano folklore, creating a horror film atmosphere that pervades the album and makes it an ideal soundtrack to Halloween in Texas and beyond. Anthems like the bilingual "DIABLO Y AZUL" and "Boogie Man," a collaboration with 1900Rugrat, creep like thieves in the night, haunting opps' dreams and turning their lives into a waking nightmare.

CUCUY expands OT's Texas-fried sound, mixing personal reflections with party anthems and infusing hip-hop, country, and Latin influences into his music. As always, the North Star is Houston rap music, and OT remains in top form, with purring cadences and drawly melodies animating his boisterous lyrics. Opener "Home Invasion," which arrives with a brand new music video, sets the tone, as OT and fellow Texan HoneyKomb Brazy establish themselves as a danger far more real than a folkloric monster. Album highlight "Izm" reverberates with the horrorcore vibes that have infected Texas rap since the Geto Boys, as OT matches up with Rob49 to deliver vicious flexes and pointed barbs. Bankroll Got It provides an irresistible groove for "Yo Mama," layering in mariachi-style horns atop booming bass, allowing OT to roll out the red carpet for special guest Kodak Black.

Beyond the Houston trap bangers, CUCUY is OT's most stylistically diverse album to date. "Apple Bottom," which OT debuted over the weekend during a performance on the roof of Reliant Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, incorporates country guitar and romantic lyrics. Bilingual banger "TSA" ratchets up the tempo, presenting a punishing four-on-the-floor beat for OT to stunt upon: he delivers fast-paced rhymes in the verse, while the hook is a staccato blast of Spanish tough talk. Songs like recent single "I Can't" ft. OC Chris and new highlight "The Sickness" ft. Nasaan gain power from their roots in Texas blues, the latter in particular layering raspy vocals with wailing harmonicas and nods to 12-bar song structure.

Featuring additional guest appearances from RNB.FOEMOB, 600 Ent.'s Yung Hood, and OT's frequent collaborator DRODi, CUCUY is available on all platforms via Capitol Records / GoodTalk / Good Money Global / Manifest.
