Jurassic World Returns in 2025, Set to Eclipse $1bn at the Box Office

The screenwriter for the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth, David Koepp, has been sent out on the circuit to do some interviews. In what looks to be a preview interview with the outlet Variety, Koepp said that they’ve drawn a sequence from the original books that didn’t make it into 1993’s Jurassic Park.

Interviews like this will start popping up everywhere as they seek to build up to the first full trailer and its release. Needing it to hit big, why is the studio taking us back into the Jurassic world so quickly, and what is there to know about the film at this stage?

A Guaranteed Hit

As a media franchise, Jurassic Park is in the top 40 highest-grossing in the world. Its six films have averaged over $1 billion each, and then there are the stacks of revenue that come in through merchandising, home video, and TV revenue. All-in, the franchise is valued at around $9.8 billion.

You can see its claw marks everywhere, particularly because Jurassic Park has essentially become the official premium brand of dinosaurs. As a result, revenues go far beyond the box office. If someone wants the best dinosaur product, they turn to Jurassic.

This is best demonstrated in a distinctly detached arm of entertainment, iGaming. In a fantastic compilation of online casinos Ontario has to offer, all the top-rated platforms listed have official Jurassic games. There's Jurassic Park: Gold, Jurassic World: Raptor Riches, and the classic JP and JW online slots. Given how much these platforms rely on having the best and most popular slot games around, it’s telling that each of them has decided to include several Jurassic Park and World games. Using popular themes isn't the only way to make a top-tier site. They need to be verified in the province, boast a smooth mobile experience, support fair play, and come with a large collection of high-quality games. However, the consistent appearance of Jurassic Park and World games speaks to the enduring fandom that surrounds these hit movies, even before the hype gets whipped up again for the seventh mainline installment.

Bringing in Extra Star Power

Incredibly realized renditions of dinosaurs on the big screen have long been the biggest draw of the Jurassic World films, even with the charisma of Chris Pratt and the original cast’s return thrown in. This time, Universal isn’t taking any chances.

After splurging $844.7 million on the last two films of the World reboot trilogy across production, marketing, and more, it looks like they want some big names to do a bit more of the heavy lifting. So, in come the superb Mahershala Ali and Scarlett Johansson as well as Ed Skrein – who will almost certainly play another villain – and Jonathan Bailey.

The last three Jurassic World films brought in $1.6 billion, $1.3 billion, and $1.0 billion at the worldwide box office. On the one hand, they collected around $4 billion from three films. On the other, those entries mark some steep declines in returns.

So, through the upcoming marketing run, they’ll really need to validate Jurassic World Rebirth’s existence and amp up the hype again for what’ll certainly be another very expensive production. Given the cast and general love of the series, it’ll almost certainly eclipse $1 billion again – but Universal will be hoping for much more.
