Dallas multi-platinum hitmaker BigXthaPlug officially released his highly anticipated fourth studio rap album, BETTER OVER TIME via UnitedMasters. BigX brought the heat with fellow hip-hop, R&B and pop hitmakers, Lil Yachty, GloRilla, Loe Shimmy, Ro$ama, Belly Gang Kushington, Fridayy, BabyFace Ray, Ava Max, and Leon Thomas. The 18-track album rings in a new chapter for BigXthaPlug, while bringing him back to his roots, expanding his sound, storytelling, and ambition that makes BigX one of the most compelling artists to emerge in the rap scene.
Earlier this week, BigX, in partnership with UnitedMasters, hosted a series of exclusive album listenings and short film watch parties in select cities across the country from Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Charlotte, and surprised adoring fans at the Dallas event. Opening the album, “STAND ON BUSINESS” sets the tone with a melodic, symphonic backdrop as BigX reflects on his journey from childhood to adulthood and the pride his family takes in how far he has come. Track two, “NO LIMIT”featuring Leon Thomas, pairs Thomas’ smooth, rhythmic vocals with BigX’s personal storytelling. Anchored by the recurring refrain “the sky’s the limit,” the track traces his path from his beginnings to his present-day success. The tracklist includes “GIVE IT ALL” which BigX teased earlier this summer and had fans asking for the full song since the viral snippet was dropped.
“BURN” featuring Ava Max arrived as the album’s second pre-release single, accompanied by a music video that brings the effortlessly smooth rap-meets-pop record to life. The album then shifts into “PEACE OF MIND,” which opens with calming strings before giving way to powerful reflections on perseverance and personal growth. As BigX delivers the sentiment, “all the love, all the rage, through it all I stayed the same,” the production builds into a more driving arrangement, with an added beat and drums underscoring the story behind his humble meteoric rise.
BigX’s unfiltered lyricism meets Babyface Ray and Lil Yachty’s distinct styles to create a hard-hitting anthem with “BELIEVE”. The energy continues on “FAF” featuring GloRilla, an upbeat track that confronts the frustration of navigating fake friendships or “fake ass friends”. On “DIE4YOU,” BigX turns his focus to loyalty and the lengths he would go to protect the people closest to him. Closing out the project, “ONE” samples Three Dog Night’s 1968 song of the same name, bringing the album’s themes of perseverance and self-belief full circle. As BigX declares, “they know I’m the one,” he reflects on the obstacles that have shaped him and solidified his confidence in the person he has become.
