I love originality and when it comes down to the flyness of hip-hop artist Lord Sko and CARRTOONS linked up for their ‘SKY FERREIRA’ music video? Super toughness.
It’s impressive and solid vibes on display here. Completely tap in.
New York City rapper Lord Sko links with producer CARRTOONS on “SKY FERREIRA,”available now HERE via Roc Nation Distribution. The release marks an early glimpse into the pair’s creative bag, bringing Sko’s sharp, introspective lyricism together with CARRTOONS’ production for a record rooted in the realities of success, loyalty, and staying true to yourself as everything around you changes.
On “SKY FERREIRA,” Sko gets candid about the weight that comes with leveling up. Over the course of the track, he reflects on money, family, fashion, and the pressure to make good on everything he’s worked toward, repeating “Got this money on my mind / Think about it constantly.” References to Iceberg sweaters, Fashion Week, and personal style weave through his reflections on success, capturing how fashion becomes part of the lifestyle he’s building. Even as new opportunities open up, his priorities remain clear: looking out for his family, keeping his circle tight, and making sure success doesn’t come at the expense of who he is.
That tension carries throughout the record, as Sko revisits old memories, reflects on the distance between where he started and where he’s headed, and questions who he can trust along the way. “SKY FERREIRA” finds him navigating the line between enjoying the rewards and protecting the life he’s building.
The accompanying music video brings fans into Sko’s world, opening at a classic New York City corner store before shifting into a skate park through playful, unconventional editing. Defined by bold primary colors, geometric shapes, and a visual style reminiscent of a ’90s sitcom, the video mirrors the track’s mix of nostalgia and forward momentum. In the second half, Sko takes the action into a thrift store, bringing the track’s fashion references into the visual before closing on him skating away for an energetic finish.
The collaboration came together while CARRTOONS was working on a solo album. After a mutual collaborator connected the two, their chemistry quickly took shape. The sessions pushed Sko beyond his usual sound, giving him room to experiment with new approaches, while the collaboration offered CARRTOONS a different creative dynamic from his recent work rooted in soul and jazz.
CARRTOONS continues to build momentum, appearing on NPR’s Tiny Desk four times, producing on Nate Smith’s Grammy-winning album LIVE-ACTION, and most recently making his Blue Note Records debut with the supergroup FATHERS. This year, he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!, in addition to selling out London’s Jazz Café.
“SKY FERREIRA” arrives amid a steady run of releases from Sko including “Elevator Music”, with Statik Selektah as well as “Understand” featuring Curren$y, “Stubborn,” and “Lesson Learned.” Across these releases, Sko continues to build on his signature mix of sharp lyricism, vivid storytelling, and production that nods to New York hip-hop’s foundations without being confined by them.
Sko’s acclaimed album PIFF features an impressive lineup of underground and established voices, including MAVI, Conway The Machine, Curren$y, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, POLO PERKS <3 <3 <3, and Grand Puba of Brand Nubian. Spanning 14 tracks, the project pairs production from hip-hop mainstays Statik Selektah and Harry Fraud with contributions from rising talents Arlo Walker and Tony Seltzer, further showcasing Sko’s ability to connect different eras and sounds while carving out his own space.
