Jinichi Kawakami is widely recognized as Japan's last ninja. He is the sole living heir to a centuries-old tradition of covert operatives and assassins. Now 76, he heads the Banke Shinobinoden school of ninjutsu, directs the Iga-ryu Ninja Museum and Ninja Council, and holds a professorship in Ninja Studies at Mie University. His knowledge was passed down orally, and since he has chosen not to take on an apprentice, the tradition ends with him.
