Iranian-born, Toronto-based rapper and producer twentythree has released a new single, “Crack” –– out now, alongside an accompanying music video. “Crack” is another outing of the rapper’s short-circuited delivery of bounce meets colorful digicore and blown-out melody, firmly planting twentythree directly in the realm of the club and no longer the haze of the afterparty. The self-directed video for “Crack” follows around twentythree and his friends’ nighttime exploits in the streets of Toronto, while rapping in his trademark swagged out, neo-jerk styling. The track continues twentythree’s prolific run of bass-heavy singles: most recently, August’s “Biggest Fan” and recent Jaeychino collab “Jersey Shore”––while further cementing his expansive sound after the release of this summer’s debut project 6ix Pop.
On June 26th, twentythree released his debut project 6ix Pop through his Greezy Gang imprint, nine tracks that set the city’s dark atmospherics against internet-era jerk production and after-party tempos. He has since thrown a headlining show at Toronto’s Mod Club, passed 2.5 Million Monthly Listeners on Spotify, and drawn critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork (with whom he was also profiled in), Pigeons & Planes, as well as COMPLEX, who named him the Toronto rapper reviving club music from the underground. Last year’s viral hit “Queen St” (70M+ Streams) drew listeners his deep catalog of singles like “Trust Nobody” and “I HATE DRUGS” that cemented the strength and foundational vision of his movement. February brought “Bite Me” and “Oh Wow”which drew critical praise from Pitchfork ahead of last month’s “Biggest Fan”.
